Creating the Roman Forum Curia Hostilia, the Comitium, and Rostra.
In this post, we explore how we built and created the detailed 3D model of the Roman Forum Curia Hostilia.
This area of the Ancient Roman Forum was used for meetings. The Curia Hostiliia was one of the original Senate buildings with the Comitium and Rostra used for open-air public meetings and assembly.
The high-resolution image is available from the Ancient Rome collection.
The two illustrations above are from different web-sources and show the Curia Hostilia and the circular Comitium in front of the building.
Flanking the Comitium was the Rostra, which was a raised podium for public address. Using these illustrations and plans, together with other content, we used this as a guild to concept design.
Using 3D modelling software we built accurate buildings, statues, and environments, before activating the scene with detailed 3D people and animals to give a sense of activity. In the image you can see there is a public meeting taking place with the Comitium, and several men are atop the Rostra addressing onlookers passing by.
